Rainforest Aged Elemi, (Brea Blanca in Spanish)(Canarium luzonicum) -
Aged elemi is not a commonly available resin.
This is the sole source of commercial elemi sold in the Philippines,
though there are many other species of elemi throughout Southeast
Asia including the Philippines.
This resin has traditionally been used as a rubifacient and
anti-rheumatic, and applied heated on the chest for lung problems.
Most of today's commercial supply is used by the
fragrance industry, with most going to France.
Manila elemi burns with a pleasant resinous odor with significant
smoke when used for incense. Sometimes, called poor man's
frankincense, this resin
is in the large family, Burseraceae, that includes the incense
producing plants copal oro, myrrh, frankincense and others The plant
is Red listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature
and Natural Resources as Vulnerable. However our elemi is collected
off the ground and poses no danger to the tree's health. Aged elemi
is generally only available where collection has not been carried out
on a regular basis.
This resin is very easy to work with and powders well for making cone or stick incense. Dark and sweet...
This price is for 1 pound.
