Golden Manila Copal (from the Amaciga or Agathis alba / Agathis Philippenensis)
This resin is very beautiful and translucent gold color, you can see the"tears" in their natural form. It burns with lovely light woodsy scent. Easy to work with for incense makers. Solar in nature.
Manila Copal is a coniferous species of tree that attains great height
(60 m) and significant diameter (3 m), the redwood of the Philippines.
Almaciga is listed as potentially threatened because of logging and
over -tapping. We do not wish this tree to meet the fate of the
related Kauri pine of New Zealand which was exhausted by resin
collectors and timber harvesters. Our resin has been sustainably
collected by friends in the Philippines.
The resin is technically a dammar. The word copal has a complex dual
meaning in relation to tree resins. The name Manila copal, is from an
unknown source of the meaning of copal as a “resin characterized by
extreme hardness and relatively high melting point” which is
entrenched and widespread in industry and literature. Many damars of
Southeast Asia are labeled copals.
This price is for 2 ounces.
